My Dream To Be A Fly Fishing Pro
They say if you don’t toot your horn every once in a while nobody else will. So here’s to tootin’! I have been very involved with fly fishing since age 12. To become a guide you need to be good and someone needs to help you get into the guideworld. Fortunataly, I was at church one day and a Hattie, a great women who is very to the point, approached me asking if I would be willing to guide for her. She knew I was a huge fly fishing guru and she thought I could do good work for her guests at the Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah.
Honestly, I was scared but after the first time guiding, I knew it was for me. I absolutley fell in love with it. I knew that one day I would own my own guiding business and as I went to college things played out even more for my dream to come true. I looked up “fishing” in the yellow pages and I found an international fly tying business that was in my college town named Rainy’s. I called them up but the were not hiring.. Ironically, In Feb, 2007 I was trying to raise money to build houses in Mexico for an orphanage. I stoped in and talked to the manger, Jesse Riding. He was not able to offer any monetary assistance, but he said that he would donate fly fishing stuff(flies, material etc..) if i needed them. I think he saw my passion and he said that they might be hiring soon so he gave me an applicaiton to fill out. I sent it in days later and ironically even though I called for a job two weeks prior, I landed the job a couple weeks after I went in for a donation…ha ha, good karma i guess. As I worked for Rainy’s I had an oportunity to meet the owners of “Rainy’s”, Rainy Riding and Ellen Clark. They asked me to take them on the Provo River for a guided fly fishing trip…it was a success, click on Rainy Riding’s name to see one of the many fish she caught with me. I also have been to a couple trade shows in Denver, Co where I got to meet some awesome professionals in the fly fishing world who make this sport available to the public, including Rainy Riding, Dave Whitlock, Bob Clouser and Kelly Galloup.
