Zillah Conqures Fly Fishing In Utah

(Zillah’s first fly fishing catch)

I would have to say my favorite clients are the ones whos biggest expectation is to only ensure a relaxing fun time on the river.  Zillah was one of those clients.  No pressure of catching fish, just the pressure of going out, learning the ropes, having fun and relaxing on the river.  Zillah made sure to mention before hand that if she caught a fish fly fishing in Utah that would definitely be a bonus.

In order to appreciate Zillah’s catch, you have to learn the mindset she came with to fish with me.  Her and her colleagues were in town from the United Kingdom on a business trip.  Since they were staying in Deer Valley, most of them choose to ski while in town.  But while her colleagues were skiing Zillah choose to come out fishing with me and they all told her fishing would be a waste of time since there were no bugs during the winter (but that is why Zillah wanted to come, she hates bugs bitting her).

So about 1 hour into the fishing after Zillah was starting to figure out the whole fly fishing gig, I stepped out of the river to watch and bam, she set the hook and FISH ON!  Zillah landed the 13 inch brown trout after a little fight. She was so excited to show her pictures to her colleagues to give them an idea of what they missed out on while they thought skiing was the only thing to do in Park City this time of year.

Fish On Zillah, we look forward to you fly fishing in Utah again!

Other things to do in Park City Utah besides skiing – Fly Fishing

(Ryan’s 2nd catch)

There are other things to do in Park City besides skiing and our group out yesterday found some luck on the river fly fishing.  Park City this year doesn’t have much snow yet, so people are looking for alternatives to skiing and so we are seeing a lot of people wanting to come out and fly fish the provo river with us.  There were a lot of people on the water yesterday since the weather is still warm.  All four people in the group caught fish, so if you are looking for things to do in park city this winter besides skiing…come out with us and try fly fishing.

The Provo River Osprey

I always enjoy seeing Osprey cruise the Provo river for two reasons: 1) They are a beautiful birds and 2) I know they know the good fishing spots.

Last year I was guiding The Provo River and I saw an Osprey circle us time and time again from about 150 feet above the air.

I noted to my client that it was a fish predator, and we might we something spectacular.  As we watched the Osprey circle for about five minutes, it made a sudden dash, head down, strait for the cool water.  Right before it got to the water it lifted it’s head up and laid it’s wing’s across the rippling water, nevertheless making a huge splash.  As it struggled for over 30 sec to pull out of the water, it had the same helplessness of a hatching mayfly trying to take it’s first flight.  The Osprey then exited the water, still struggling, but slowly gaining it’s strength, as it flew away with a majestic fish that just like us, seeks this pride over and over again.   This bird is one who explores, seeks, and finds success and has a name that now means more…”The Osprey”

Getting ready for the spawn!

The time is near where fly fishing in Utah is about to get hot.  The average fly fisherman is about to stop fly fishing due to the cold weather.  The cold weather puts the fish into the spawn and so what you get is a great day on the river.

Book your trip so you can catch fish like this, great color, big, fun!

I’ve already got 4 bookings during the spawn.  Call me so you can get your great fly fishing trip today.

Fly Fishing Request

Got this request via e-mail today:

Hey Justin!  I found your website through Trip Advisor.  I’m looking for a cool date in the Park City area next week — I’m driving around the country writing a book called Fifty Dates in Fifty States, and I try to do things that are actually fun (not meeting up for dinner or coffee, ’cause that would be a totally lame book).  My jaw dropped when I saw how much it costs to go fly fishing — there’s no way I could afford it!! — but then I thought, hey, maybe Justin is single and would want to be my date and we could go fly fishing for free???  :)   It’s worth a shot.  And you’d get free publicity.  :)   I’ll be there the 14th & 15th . . . let me know if you’re available!
