Utah Professional Fly Fishing Guides

Today was a wonderful day to be out fly fishing in Utah.  I had a client come out today for his third day in a row with his dad to fly fish utah and what they found was not only some great fishing, but some time to relax on the water, and a great adventure.  It’s always a pleasure to get to take out clients who are naturally have the touch, and Brian had it.  Below is a video of Brian and his Dad with one of his many fish.

On their last day here (today), After spotting a huge brown trout we stuck with it and fished the hole for about 20 min.  After patiently waiting for a “hit” we finally thought of a new plan.  Shorten the indicator and put on less wait…BAM!  FISH ON!  It took us a good 5 minutes of walking with the fish to land this one.  All I have to say is good job Brian, and the fish was worth the swim!

Utah Fly Fishing Adventure

Utah Fly Fishing Adventure!

Yes sir, today was just one of those really good fly fishing days with good company.  I didn’t have any clients so I called up my mission president a couple days ago and we went out today.  We got out on the water early, around 7 a.m and fished till noon.  We both landed some nice fish and had a lot of fun catching up.  I sure enjoyed the trip and was glad to see him.  I just wish I would have had a client today to, so call me up and I’d love to take you out.  You can go to my fly fishing contact page to send me an e-mail or call me at 801.376.0626 to book a trip directly.

Utah Fly Fishing Guide Service

I took out Brent Haslam, a Utah local who’s been out with Utah Pro Fly Fishing before.  Last time he came out, we fished the middle Provo and he was out with his son who was leaving for an LDS mission.  During the trip Brent explained that he has always wanted to fish the Green Drakes so I told him during the hatch I’d contact him and let him know so I could take him out.

Last week, since the Green Drakes have been coming off good, he came out and got into them!  He had a lot of nymph action before the hatch and during the hatch he got into a lot on top on a Royal Wolf.  We tried catching on top with a lot of different patterns but we REALLY started slaying ‘em once we put on the Wolf.  It was a great Utah Fly Fish Guide Service and we had a lot of fun.

One of the funnest parts about the trip is the Brent insisted that I catch some trout w/him.  I ended up catching quite a few with him…although he did out-fish me.  Nice work Brent, until next time….Tight Lines!

Memoirs Of A Fly Fishing Initiate

Written By: Jared Chatterton

I’m not one to express myself via the written word. Justin pressured me into writing this monologue. He is also the one that pressured me into a fly fishing obsession. Because of this, he has become my wife’s worst enemy. I get the “you’re going fishing again” look on a regular basis. I justify my disassociation by saying, “honey, I am fulfilling my fatherly furnishing responsibilities by providing food for the family.” I haven’t kept one yet. Of course, I need to catch one big enough to filet. My wife thinks that all of my catches are 10 inchers.  There is something about fly fishing that is hard to describe. It is much more than a process or activity. Of course, the captive moment occurs when you set the hook into the lips of a large trout and gently, yet forcefully, bring it towards you as if you just beguiled the fish with your conquering mental and physical capacities. It feels good. It makes all of us stupid men feel really smart.

Even when you get skunked, you still have fun. Here is my list of why fly fishing is more than the catch:

1. Watching your abnormally uncoordinated friends fall flat on their face in the middle of a swift moving river. It makes you LOL every time.

2. Consuming massive quantities of sunflower seeds. The river makes for a perfect shell receptacle. They also make a perfect alarm clock telling you it is time to go home when the oral seed sores start to hurt.

3. You can donate $4 worth of flies to an overhanging tree branch in a single cast and you don’t even care; yet we are quick say “no” when the nice lady at Wal-Mart asks us to donate $1 to the Primary Children’s Hospital. It must be the pleasant atmosphere that puts you in such a good mood.

4. Trying to get to the next good fishing hole. This usually requires hiking through thick brush and swamp land. You wouldn’t chase your favorite dog into some of this treacherous territory yet the terrain is a paved parkway when a prospective fishing hole might be around the corner.

5. Unfortunately, you sometimes have to share the river with others. You have never met any of these people in your life, yet you are all BFF (best friends forever). We all share the exact same social status and title: angler. Certainly my discourse wouldn’t be complete without some pictures. Here are a couple lousy cell phone shots of my most recent trip to the lower portion of the Logan River. There is a white fish which is the most annoying fish ever. I wonder what I could do to prevent myself from catching so many of those. The other is a typical rainbow. I added the reel for professional affect. (pictures above)

Salt Lake City Fly Fishing

Today’s Salt Lake City Fly Fishing was at it’s best!

Howard and his two boys came out fly fishing with us today from Maryland.  They were on an R.V. road trip passing through Salt Lake City and had looked me up online weeks prior.  They stayed at the Salt Lake City KOA and I picked them up this morning at 9am.  It was an enjoyable, successful trip.  We all went to some Private Waters up in Northern Utah and everyone caught plenty of fish.

The highlight of the trip was when Howard’s youngest boy Regan (only 5 years old) had one on and at the same time his other boy Quinten (only 9 years old) hooked up on a trout that launched over Regan’s fly line…we managed to get them both netted.  After netting both fish, Howard landed a pig too! (Great Picture above)

We look forward to helping you build an enjoyable memory for You! Book a trip with Utah Pro Fly Fishing today!

-=Below is an e-mail I just received from Howard=-

Justin,

Another big thank you from the McComas boys, you are good at what you do.  Your fishing trip has been the one of the highest points of the trip.  The boys won’t stop talking about it.  We will do you justice on trip advisor. Thank you again for your kindness and I wish you the best on your business venture

Howard
